The Global Japanese Tea Intermediate Course is an immersive and deeply comprehensive program designed for those seeking a profound understanding of Japanese tea beyond the foundational level.
The course explores Japanese tea farming in depth, focusing on the refinement stage and the wide range of techniques available to producers—each shaping a tea’s quality, health components, stylistic expression, and market value. Participants gain detailed insight into Japan’s key tea regions and the principal cultivars, developing a clear understanding of how terroir, cultivar selection, and production choices define the final cup.
Day Two delves further into Japanese tea culture, with an in-depth exploration of the tea ceremony. The course highlights the distinctions between major tea ceremony schools, their philosophies, and their preparation techniques. Matcha is examined in greater detail, including advanced classification and the precise preparation of both Usucha and Koicha, allowing participants to experience the full depth and discipline of ceremonial matcha practice.
Throughout the course, participants work hands-on with a wide range of Japanese tea tools—from traditional Kyusu teapots to professional brewing equipment tailored to specific tea categories—ensuring a practical, experiential approach that reinforces theoretical learning.
Intense, intellectually engaging, and richly rewarding, this course offers a true deep dive into the world of Japanese tea.
